Again, this is an unedited version featuring their 'original' names. Although, you see more real personality from the group.

Alex liked the little Earth-girl, she wasn’t afraid of him, or even the Vyperans, although she was acting that way. Her soul brother had taught her well when it came to the realities of a galaxy at war. “The part I still don’t entirely understand,” Jessie said, “was why I was picked out of the crowd in Manhattan. Danny said I didn’t have an aura or anything that would scream I knew about aliens.”

Alex opened his mouth to offer an opinion, and instead found himself yelling as anger and pain ripped through his shields and blinding him in their intensity. He curled inward, clutching his temples and trying to throw up strong blockers. It wasn’t Angel, he knew, although he could feel his friend reacting as their bond vibrated under the sudden assault. He was vaguely aware of Jessie’s hand on his shoulder and her calm mind, laced as it was with worry, concern and a hint of true fear, was a counterpoint to the chaos that blinded him.

As suddenly as it began, the emotions vanished, save for Jessie, whose worry/concern/fear was beginning to become tinged with frustration. “I’m sorry,” someone said and a hand brushed the back of his neck, “is that better?”

Alex opened eyes he hadn’t realized he shut and began carefully to sit up, “Yes,” he said finally, lowering his hands, “thank you. What happened?”

“We didn’t realize we’d run into an Empath, and our shields were down,” someone said.

“These two idiots tap danced in here,” Jessie chimed in, she was glaring behind him, “and I mean that literally.”

Alex turned and blinked, two young men knelt behind him, and both were leaning back out of his space. They were dressed in dark gray pants and suits, although the one on the left wore a bright green shirt and the one on the left wore a brown one. Other than the shirts, they were close enough to identical that Alex had to stop himself from checking to see if they were clones. “Hi,” brown shirt said a little warily, “I’m Jared, also known as Idiot One apparently.”

“I’m Jordan,” green shirt added, “are you ok?”

“I am now,” Alex replied, “but I must admit, I’m curious, tap dancing?”

The pair, clearly twins, pointed at each other, “He’s banned from waltzing,” they announced in unison.

Alex coughed and behind him Jessie muttered, “Good Goddess, why does it always have to be boys?”

Jordan and Jared glanced at each other and Jared made a series of hand gestures insistently. Jordan signed back, Jared glared at him, and Jordan stood up. Jordan had stepped forward when the entire ship rocked and the gravity fluctuated. Off balance, Alex fell backwards, and Jordan landed on top of him with a grunt of air. For a moment, they lay there, then Jordan pushed off him. Their eyes met and Jordan smiled shyly, “Hi,” Alex said softly. It was, he knew, the end of being alone in his head.
