And we're off, it is now time for fans of the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburg Penguins to gear up, pick up their tin-foil Stanley Cups, and prepare to throw the Octopus.
That's right, it's Game One of the Stanley Cup finals, and we're rooting for Detroit (see the icon).
Currently ten minutes into the first period, we are scoreless, although Detroit leads the shots-on-goal totals.
Now, I'm sure you're asking yourself, why should I care about hockey? Well, here are some facts.
Fact: Lord Stanley's Cup is the oldest trophey in North America
Fact: Detroit is a founding member of the NHL
Fact: Detroit holds the record for consecutive trips to the playoffs (18)
Fact: Detroit was last year's Stanley Cup Winner, beating the Penguins soundly.
Fact: Hockey is the only non-fighting based sport where if two players fight, unless it's super bad, will get put in 'time out' (aka the penalty box) for to five minutes.
Fact: Hockey players, with or without teeth, are hot.
