Rebecca and James

I know, I know, anyone who follows GiG knows the story of James/Dillon. This is not the same story, although some of this may read as Dillon, he's really not. James is from Aurin, and was part of a group that was key in the defense of Aurin with Daniel while Rebecca was not. As I work on the next set of prompts, I am finding more about Daniel, James and Rebecca in particular and the rest of their group, Zakiyah, Kodah, Ian, Nia, Frimen and a few others I haven't named (but will feature in an origins novel later on). Thus Rebecca and James will become less like the people who inspired them, although, upon rereading, only the first of these paragraphs is counter to Rebecca as I mean to write her. That and the fact that Daniel hates being called Danny and only allows Jessie to get away with calling him that without severe pain. Although, I will keep Phoenix...her original form was as the daughter of Cassie and Phantom, raised by TJ and Carlos...she'll have a different history for the purpose of the Gemini.
Rebecca remembers when she was blind, but after losing and regaining her memories, the four years of blackness have become more the remembered stories of a stranger than her own past. Even with the photographs James brought from their mother, Rebecca can hardly believe she had once thought she’d never see the world again. In the pictures, she is clearly blind, and yet, every time Rebecca looks in the mirror, all she sees are the dark brown eyes that have been hers since childhood. Even knowing that they are robotic implants created by a malevolent computer cannot break the illusion.
Danny tastes like chocolate when they kiss, except when it’s raining. Something about kissing him in the rain always reminds her of mint. Rebecca wonders about it occasionally, but it doesn’t bother her. After all, there are more important things to do when it’s raining, like actually kissing her boyfriend. Somehow, even when she and Jessie have spent the day fighting, kissing Danny helps her to believe that everything is normal even when she knows that ‘normal’ is subjective to the views of the beholder and that her idea of normal would have horrified her mother and angered her father.
James will freely admit that he is obsessed with his little sister, he always has been. She was his first responsibility and he won’t give that up. From protecting her from the closet monster to being her eyes to finally rescuing her from Kale, James intends to see his little sister happy. From the day his mother had placed the small pink bundle in his arms and admonished him to be careful, James has been devoted to her. One day, he knows, he will give her away and probably to his best friend Daniel, but she was his responsibility first.
One day, James wants to know what peace is like. He wants to be able to see his girlfriend somewhere other than a briefing or a battlefield and he wants to hug his mother. One day, James will give Phoenix the ring he wears around his neck and watch their children grow up in peace. For now, however, James finds peace in the little moments, teasing Jessie and ‘Becca, playing pranks with Danny and sharing stories with the Gemini. It’s not much, but they aren’t fighting, planning to fight, or recovering from a fight, and that’s what his peace is.
