In one of the previous drabbles, I wrote that Alex was 'submissive'. A friend (ironically the Alex who inspired the character) pointed out the bad connotations of that word. In return, I feel a short explination is required. On Amarantha in particular, the word 'submission' is a badly mispronounced/translated word for someone who fights best in a team, who isn't a leader by nature and who actually doesn't want to lead.
Alex isn't a leader, he's actually one of my more complex characters as time goes on. Seemingly cold and sarcastic, Alex is a Healer who can't Heal. He made a decision several years ago that was part of the cause for the partially self-imposed exile from Amarantha. Because of what he did, Alex is hesitant to Heal and often lashes out because of his fear. He lacks confidence in his own decisions, at times even fails to stand up for himself. Alex and Angel are childhood friends who regard each other as a sibling and he trusts her particularly when it comes to decision making. Angel doesn't often talk about or admit to how damaged Alex is, allowing the illusion that it is her loud personality and take charge attitude that makes Alex to take a lesser role in their partnership. Angel protects Alex not just because of their friendship, but because he is a Healer and she believes that he'll one day be able to use his Gifts once again.
