Sep. 19th, 2011 01:17 amOh My, you do not know how much I am looking forward to writing Jessie and Daniel together. I have all this little conversation snipits floating around that the two of them could pull off. It's the advantage of being twenty-somethings from Earth. Although the others are just as fun. I hope everyone sticks around for all eight books. (I'm going to need to find more prompt lists...)
Angel straightened up; pivoting to study the four captives, making sure to strike her best cheesy ‘rescuing heroine’ pose. “Alex,” Angel said in Amaranthan, glancing at her brother, “You good?”
Alex started to grin in response to her posing, but flinched as the ship shook again, “Physically, I’m in one piece.” He also spoke Amaranthan, a long agreed upon signal between them about their actual condition, given the reluctance of the Amaranth to teach their language to ‘outsiders’.
“Great, your friends,” Angel gestured to the twins and the girl, who was watching her with sharp, suspicious eyes.
“I’m not sure about Jessie,” Alex replied, nodding slightly to the girl, “but the twins seem to be ok.”
“For those of us who don’t speak Amaranth,” one of the twins said pointedly in English, “Who are you?”
“I’m Angel,” Angel replied, hiding her distaste for the language in favor of a strong glare towards the twins. “And who are you?”
“Jordan,” the twin said he nodded his head towards the other boy, “that’s Jared.”
Angel eyed the girl for a long moment, “I’m Jessie,” the girl said seeming to find a burst of confidence, “of Earth.”
Angel looked at Alex, who was watching Jordan with an odd glint in his eye. Remembering what she’d overheard Jared and Jessie discussing, she knew it wasn’t indigestion that put that particular expression on her brother’s face. “Great,” she said, rubbed her hands together and braced herself against another hit. “Someone let the Mare` Cresto attack, so we need to go. I was able to pick up enough to know that the Omega’s out there and I’ve found a ship.”
“Who let them out on attack?” Jordan demanded in outrage as Alex shook his head and Jordan rolled his eyes.
“I’m not sure I can,” Jessie said suddenly, drawing their attention as the ship shook again.
“We’ll just wrap your blanket like a dress,” Angel began.
“Not that,” Jessie said, although she blushed, “My leg isn’t working right, I might not be able to keep up.” She shifted her blankets to reveal a leg that was bruised with angry red streaks running across the calf.
“Does it hurt?” Alex asked.
Jessie shrugged, “I’ve hurt worse, but it doesn’t move right.”
“Can you crawl?” Angel asked.
“Well, yes,” Jessie said.
“Good, most of our trip is in the life support system, we’ll all be crawling.” Angel said, “We’ll stop to get everyone’s affects and run for the ship bay from there.”
“I can carry her,” Jared said, “It won’t be a problem.”
“Thank you,” Jessie said, “but I don’t want to slow you down.”
Angel shook her head, “We don’t leave people behind.” Alex’s look warned her to tone down her sarcasm.
The ship shook again and Jessie nodded, “All right,” she said, “but if I’m a liability, don’t think I won’t say that I told you I would be.”
“If you’re a liability,” Angel replied and offered her hand to the girl, “I’ll shoot you myself.”
