Prequal to Shatter; Prompt: Out of Tune

Tabby eased herself down into the rocking chair her parents had given her. She hadn't expected to find herself attached to it, but she was. She rested one hand on her expanded belly, as she began to rock.
The door swung open and Kyp stepped in, his ears were perked in a way that Tabby read as shyly hopeful and she smiled. "Come on in," she said, "I was just resting."
"Oh," Kyp said. He walked over and settled down on the footstool.
"What's on your mind?" Tabby asked.
"Do you sing to her?" Kyp asked. "Mother says she sang to me in the womb."
"I haven't thought of that," Tabby said, "and you know how he gets when he's awake."
"It's a girl." Kyp said, toying with the end of his tail.
"No, a boy," Tabby replied, "I have a feeling." She hissed, "And he's kicking again. Let's try this singing thing." She hummed for a moment, and then began to sing, "Hush little baby don't say a word. Papa's gonna buy you a mocking bird and if that mocking bird won't sing, Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring."
"That song makes no sense," Kyp protested. "She's a warrior, you should sing about her future in battle, doing great deeds as you have."
"Um, no," Tabby replied, "he's a warrior, but that's not the kind of thing you sing to a baby, Kyp."
"Then how will she know what she'll be." Kyp asked.
"He will find his own path," Tabby replied.
A door slammed, Kyp leaped to his feet and headed for the closet while Tabby stiffened. Then she relaxed and began to sing again. "And if that diamond ring turns glass, Papa's going to be you a looking glass."
"What'cha doing?" Mike asked as he bounced in the room.
"Just singing to the baby," Tabby replied.
"Oh, I thought a cat died or something," Mike replied. Unfortunantly, Tabby might have been inconvinced by her pregnancy, but she was still fast enough to smack him before he got out of the room.
